Birch “S” Series Architectural Desk by Eliel Saarinen

Birch “S” Series Architectural Desk by Eliel Saarinen

This outstanding original 1948 birch “S” series architectural desk was designed by Eliel Saarinen and produced by Johnson Furniture. The split level desk top design was intended to accommodate both a writing and typing surface, but in today’s application, the typing height works very well as an ergonomic desk top computer height. In the late 1920’s Eliel Saarinen became the architect for The Cranbrook Academy of Art and shortly after it’s President. As an teacher, his pupils included Eero Saarinen, Pipsam Saarinen- Swanson, Robert Swanson, Charles and Ray (Kaiser) Eames and countless other who achieved great heights in the modern American art and design movements.
