Paul Frankl Cork & Mohagany Coffee Table model 5028

Known as the Big Foot table, this large biomorphic cork top and mahogany coffee table was designed by Paul Frankl for Johnson Furniture in 1951. This coffee table is in pristine condition. The natural cork and mahogany legs are even in color without discoloration or fading. It retains the Paul Frankl design design number stamp, “5028” on the underside. It’s distinctive echo plastic design by this highly innovative American designer is an outstanding example of modernist design. Paul T. Frankl opened Frankl Galleries on 48th Street in NYC in the 1920’s. He immediately established himself as one of the foremost modern designers in the US with his skyscraper designs. He then came to California in 1934 where he changed his style to express the more horizontal and elegant Hollywood style of his celebrity clients. Still ahead and in the forefront of design, in the late 1940’s and into the1950’s he created strikingly original cork and mahogany line for the Johnson Co.
